I got a Windows security notice that TrojanProxy-Win32/Koobface.gen!B had been detected on my computer but could not be removed by the security tool that found it. My first reaction was to run a scan with AVG to see what it came up with, but upon trying to do so, discovered that it was no longer installed on my machine.

Additionally, my DHCP seems to have been compromised as well, and I am unable to access the internet from my infected computer, making it much harder to obtain any tools that would make removal easy.

Has anyone run into this problem? I've looked up some directions on manual removal, but I would rather hear from someone who has had this particular problem, as none of the answers I have found so far have been terribly consistent, and I'm not super comfortable with screwing around in my registry.

Thanks!

I once had a trojan that would keep changing my home page to some Japanese hub on an older computer and couldn't kill it until I did everything from safe mode to running the antivirus and antispy WITH THE INTERNET CONNECTION CUT. Try something like that.

The harder viruses to remove are like kudzu. It can even be a gateway to invite other crap onto your computer.

Better to do all your virus hunting in safe mode. Also, Hijackthis is a good program to use for the most stubborn bullshit.

I seem to have gotten rid of the worst of it. Cleaned up everything suspicious and got some stronger anti-virus coverage. Thanks for the advise.
