Seriously Ethy, people open their mouths all the time without thinking; thus the stigma of life. Although, since silly pinheads seem to like textbooks, just point them to dictionary.com for the definition. =)

People = lame

*sigh*

So the wretched season finally ends. Guy with the most hair wins. Funny ain't it?
I am disheartened, but it's fine. McCain was destined to be the fallout guy for this because most of the guys on the right side of the aisle weren't actually voting for him but were going to vote against Obama. With that said, it's a lot harder to run against something and win then it is to run for something.

Obama ran very well. He was articulate in his big speeches, and had the alphabet channels and most of the newsgroups were behind him. But most importantly -- it's not George W Bush.

There's still many questions I have, for one - what would happen when the people who do earn more than 250k lower their bracket to 249k to escape the tax burden, and the tax pool shrinks dramatically to the point where it can't keep up with expenditures?

We have one single party that has a majority in the senate and house. There is little check and balance and I see ease in power abuse. It was the same in the 2000-2006 congressional sessions as the Republicans gradually grew more and more corrupt.

It's too early to make a lot of predictions, but with the same leadership as the worst Congressional approval ratings (Hellooooooo 9%) from the previous session, it makes me curious as to how different this will be with a guy with a big "D" by his name in the White House.

@Ethy
Lady's a moron.

But really, I prefer not paying 500 DKK ($86.44) for a video game or pay the outrageous rate of approximately 60% of my income to pay for the healthcare of 5.5 million people.
I think you would perfer to import the same game from the United States for a cheaper price yourself. =)

I, too, am shocked at the accusations of socialism that I see many people at my college making. Even trying to discuss with them what a socialist really is, most either got offended and freaked out, or just wouldn't say anything.

Honestly, people need to grow the hell up. Almost any McCain supporter I've seen has been taking this like they just lost a baseball game. I have no problems with being upset if your candidate didn't win, but sitting there saying "we're fucked" or whatever else with no backbone, I seriously just want to freak out. THEN, we have people that are threatening to leave the country. Y'know what? If people don't like who will run this country and want to leave, they should pack up and get out. It's that simple.

Phew...sorry about the rant. I was just disgusted at how some people treated a historical night in our nation's history. Instead of truly feeling joy, pride, and optimism, they focused on their own little world.

Ah, classic argument. "If you don't like it, leave it!"
This isn't "my own little world", this is America as we know it to be starting in 2009.
Same has been said four and eight years ago with Bush by some Republicans towards those who said they would leave. =P

I honestly see little significance (He's African-American. Big deal! I could care less.) in Barrack Obama's election other than he's gonna be the 44th President of the United States. But then again, I find that the biggest differences between people are their body odors.

So you don't see the issues of what I said to be legitimate concerns? If McCain had won, wouldn't you have concerns with what he believed to be right, or things you believed to be overlooked? Come on.

I think they sound rather reasonable, and these are not Republican talking points, these are just questions that haven't been resolved in the past 3 months. I think it's healthy to question our leaders - especially those are a wild card or otherwise. I know that Joe Biden said "Don't question me or my judgement" in the VP debate, but that just perks my curiosity even more.

Otherwise, I can't call myself informed.

To the people that earn 250,000 or more, I'm sure measures will be taken to ensure that there is no getting out of the tax. And they shouldn't. I'm sorry, but being in a middle class family, being a full-time student in a liberal arts college, and working a part-time job, the last thing I need are more taxes. The upper class SHOULD pay more; why? Because they can contriubute more and be able to be comfortable in doing so. As far as tax cuts go, I'm sure Obama is going to have to instill some form of alternate way to get funds. He is going to get rid of programs that aren't working / are pointless...which, I think will bring in some revenue.

Checks and balances with a single-party majority will still exist. Not every Democrat will see eye-to-eye on every issue; even then, the Supreme Court and Congress will have to pass bills. Regardless of the Democrat holding the majority, not everything will be passed.

A lot of analysts are saying that Obama will open the door to a whole new way that the American political system is ran, and I hope that they are right. Obama is going to hopefully repair the old alliances, and our standing as a world power will rise. The entire world (except Russia) is very enthusiastic about Obama, and as such, they will be willing to work with him.

Zeph, your concerns are indeed legit. I never thought of the possible loophole that the 250k+ crowd can use. I guess I'm a guy that is desperate for a new direction, and my heart tells me that Obama is the man that will turn us around. I was the happiest I have been in a long time last night, and not because Obama won. I was happy to see our nation rejoicing as a united nation, the tears of joy running down the faces of African Americans, and just knowing that I lived to see history be made. Just from being elected, Obama has the nation excited for our future instead of dreading it. He has a TON of hype to live up to...but I doubt he will have any trouble doing so.

What I DON'T agree with is throwing around the word "socialist" with Obama, or any other rediculous claim that was made by Palin, McCain, or any other Republican that goes by the media instead of doing some research. It's unjust, it's stupid, and it gets old hearing it. In your case Zephie, you have legitimate concerns that I could easily have a conversation about. When someone walks up to me and says "Obama has a 3rd cousin that is a terrorist in Iran," I can't help but question their intelligence.

Although Denmark might not be a socialist country, those are socialist ideas.

Giant Question:

Why the HELL do we need a "civilian paramilitary that is just as strong and as well funded as our military"!?

We already have a paramilitary force, and it's called the police. This is not calling on self-reliance and protection of self, but he is offering credit to those who would participate for college. What the HELL is the point when the military in of itself provides the same thing!?
